Project Work

Apart from its regular activities, VRF has successfully completed a few Projects, sponsored by M/s TATA Coffee Ltd., Pollibetta, Agricultural Technologies and Services, Bangalore, M/s Namdhari Seeds (Pvt.) Ltd., Bangalore, etc.

Technology Demonstration

  • Various soil and water conservation structures have been adapted
  • A successful rainwater harvesting system has been established
  • A model vanilla farm has been set up
  • An ideal silviculture system using Teak, Mahagony, Acacia along with native plants has been established.

"Moodambail" Organic Village

The successful management of Varanashi Farms through organic farming has prompted Varanashi's to take up organic village project at Moodambail. In this village, influenced by varanashi's, more than 50% of the farmers were organic. Now the entire Moodambail is going to be 100% organic. There are over 350 families. Under the project Varanashi has provided all technical inputs needed to manage successful organic farming. Financial aid is extended for the supply of organic inputs. Cocoa, arecanut, coconut, vanilla, cashew nut, black pepper, rice, milk, honey etc. are organically produced in this village. It is planned to make this village a model in all respects. Government of Karnataka financially supports this project, as a part of 27 model organic villages in 27 districts of the state.

Varanashi Organic Farmers Society

In an effort to consolidate organic movement, Varanashi Organic Farmers Society (VOFS) was promoted. An Internal Control System (ICS) has been established and organic certification has been obtained. Marketing the organic produce is in progress. It has a membership of over 1,700 organic farmers Organically certified. The project is technically managed by VRF and financed by National Centre for Organic Farming(NCOF), Government of India.
